The Garden of England

by Peter Cox

Royal National Theatre

Cottesloe Theatre, 14 November 1985

The script of The Garden of England has been condensed from nearly fifty hours of taped interviews recorded in the Kent coalfield in September/October 1984 and in May 1985. These interviews were solely with striking miners and their families, and therefore represent the point of view of only one group of people. The editing of this large mass of material was done so as to reflect the topics raised by those interviewed.

Length: about 2 hours 20 minutes, including a 15-minute interval
